Vintage Diner Coffee Cups Made by Vandesca of Joliette, Quebec

These are vintage diner coffee cups made by Vandesca Pottery Ltd. in Joliette, Quebec. The company was started in 1947 by Syracuse China. Vandesca – the only pottery in Canada that manufactured vitrified china. “Vitrified” means “like glass.” It is made non-porous during firing. Ingredients like silica turn into glass at these high temperatures, giving the china its translucent appearance.
